LIVE: Forney City Council run-off election between Mary Penn and Jennifer Helms

Forney's first ever run-off election is between Council Member Mary Penn and candidate Jennifer Helms for Forney City Council Place 5.  Election day voting will end at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, June 12th, 2012.  The only polling location open for this runoff election was the Sub-Courthouse in Forney, but the ballots will still need to travel to the Kaufman County Courthouse where they will be counted.

The election in May for Forney City Council Place 5 also included Mark Ellis.  Jennifer Helms previously held the majority votes, but was unable to capture more than 50.1% of the votes.  Helms recieved 305 (46%) votes, Penn recieved 288 (43.44%) votes, and Ellis recieved 70 (10.56%) votes.  A month has passed since that election and, with several accusations thrown around in the 'blogosphere', this competition has become overheated. It will be interesting to see the voter turnout this time around.

Mary Penn may have ran an honest campaign but she for sure had others around her that did not.

No i disagree with you Lanita, my mom ran a very honest campaign. She is very honest and truthful person which makes her a great person to sit on the council. Apparently the voters agreed and kept her. I am so proud to call her my mom and I think she will continue to do an amazing job.

Too bad the 'winner' had to stoop to spreading untruths and rumors to get it done.
Congratulations Jennifer for running an honest and clean race.
