KEMP, Texas — A 24-year-old mother of two has been identified as the woman who was tragically killed after crashing into a pond in Kemp over the weekend.
Officials identified the woman as 24-year-old Kaitlin Leanne Lawrence of Kemp, Texas, a mother of two small children.
Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Lawrence was driving a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta when she did not return home from work on Saturday night.
Its unknown what time the crash occurred but emergency personnel were called to a pond around 3 p.m. on Sunday after witnesses reported signs of a crash at the intersection of State Highway 274 and the U.S. Highway 175 frontage road.
Lawrence's body and vehicle were recovered from the pond just after 10 p.m. on Sunday.
"It is a very sad and tragic accident," Kemp Mayor Laura Peace told inForney.com.
ORIGINAL — A deceased female's body was recovered from a pond during a crash investigation in Kemp on Sunday evening.
Late Sunday evening, multiple agencies responded to a pond located just east of the intersection of State Highway 274 and the U.S. Highway 175 frontage road for an apparent crash. There, a dive team later located and assisted in the recovery of a vehicle from the pond.
Police say the body of the driver, identified only as a female, was also recovered.
The recovery efforts lasted several hours.
Kemp Police Department Chief Martin says additional information will be forthcoming.
