Construction for a 200,000 square foot Amazon distribution center in Forney is still underway with another 1 million+ square foot fulfillment center to follow across the street.

FORNEY, Texas — Amazon has announced it plans to hire 500 new, full-time jobs at its 1-million-square-foot fulfillment center in Forney. first reported on Amazon's new fulfillment center in June 2020, just months after the company announced an earlier, smaller 200,000-square-foot distribution center — bringing the e-commerce giant's overall footprint to over 1.28-million square feet in Forney.

Today, the company announced its hiring plans with confirmation of the 500 positions at, what the company describes as, industry leading pay and comprehensive benefits.

“We’re excited to be expanding our network of operations in Forney,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s vice president of global customer fulfillment. “We are grateful for the strong support we’ve received from local and state leaders as we broaden our footprint around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. We look forward to creating over 500 jobs for the local Forney community, with industry leading pay and comprehensive benefits starting on day one.”

Amazon associates at the fulfillment center will work to pick, pack, and ship bulky or larger-sized customer items such as patio furniture, outdoor equipment, or rugs, according to the company.

The distribution center, or delivery center, serves as the "last mile" of the Amazon order fulfillment process. This facility is expected to hire over 100 full- and part-time jobs.

"On top of Amazon’s industry-leading minimum starting wage from $15, the company offers full-time employees comprehensive benefits including full medical, vision, and dental insurance as well as a 401(k) with 50 percent match starting on day one," according to Amazon. "The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families."

Both facilities are located in the Petro-Hunt Gateway development south of U.S. Highway 80. Construction on the distribution center is well underway, across from the 1.2-million-square-foot Goodyear distribution center, and is expected to be completed this year. The fulfillment center is expected to launch in 2021, although a company spokesperson did not confirm which quarter.
