MESQUITE, Texas — Texas Governor Greg Abbott joined the City of Mesquite in a groundbreaking ceremony earlier today for a $65-million, 850,000-square-foot distribution and fulfillment center for Ashley Furniture Industries.
Ashley is set to build their new South Central Distribution and Fulfillment Center at Scyene and Faithon P. Lucas Boulevard on a 358-acre tract of land on the city’s east side, just west of the Mesquite Municipal Airport.
The facility is expected to employ 350 full-time employees.
Ashley’s agreement with the City of Mesquite also encourages future investments in the facility with expansions and additional jobs.
“Honored to join Ashley Furniture for a ground breaking ceremony on a massive new distribution & manufacturing center in Mesquite,” Abbott said on Twitter.
In other Mesquite development news, FedEx Ground is set to open its approximate 365,000-square foot facility this Fall, Dick’s Sporting Goods is under construction at Town East Mall on the Town East Boulevard side — the mall’s fifth major anchor.
Market East Shopping Center, near the Emporium Circle, is also under expansion with the pad site for Michaels underway and Home Goods expected to begin later this year, according to the City of Mesquite.
Fitness Connection, a 70,000-square foot fitness facility in the Town East Shopping Center is now open. The center also features a Mr. Gatti’s and a Guitar Center.
