KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A homeowner shot and killed an intruder while on the phone with 911 on Thursday morning in Kaufman County.
The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. at a residence in the 8500 block of Farm-to-Market (FM) 2757, just south of Forney.
The female homeowner told police she was awakened by someone banging on her front door. She did not answer the door because she didn't recognize the man or his vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the woman heard the back door being kicked in, retreated to another room, and called 911.
"The caller remained on the line with 911 operators until she was confronted by the intruder at which time she defended herself by shooting the intruder," read a statement from the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office.
Upon arrival, the male intruder was found deceased inside the residence. He was identified by police on Friday morning as 46-year-old Nikusubila Makwangwala of Dallas, Texas.
The homeowner was uninjured.
The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident with assistance from the Texas Rangers.
