FORNEY, Texas (Forney Independent School District) – The Forney Independent School District Board of Trustees approved two new principals during the board’s regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 11, 2016. The board approved Mrs. Courtney Peck as the new principal at North Forney High School and Dr. Barbi Donehoo as the new principal at Rhea Elementary School.
Peck replaces Dr. Jason Johnston who recently accepted the principal position at Allen High School in Allen, Texas. She has served North Forney High School as the school’s Interim Principal following Dr. Johnston’s departure.
Peck has 13 years of experience in public education. She taught English Language Arts for seven years in Louisiana and has served for the last six years in a variety of administrative roles, including Assistant Principal of Learning, District Curriculum Coordinator, and Supervisor of Secondary Education. She came to North Forney High School in 2015 from Forney High School where she was the Consultant for Intervention and Assessment.
Peck received her Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana where she also earned her Master’s degree in Adult Education and her Specialist in Educational Leadership. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce in Commerce, Texas.
“Mrs. Peck did an outstanding job stepping into the role as the interim principal at North Forney High School,” said Forney ISD Superintendent of Schools Suzanne McWilliams. “It can be a difficult challenge to take over as principal in the middle of the school year, but Mrs. Peck has done a tremendous job in taking on the leadership responsibilities and keeping the school running smoothly. I am confident that she will not only be instrumental in the success of the students and staff at North Forney High School, but that she will help North Forney reach new heights in the future!”
The Board of Trustees also approved Dr. Barbi Donehoo to be the new principal at Rhea Elementary School. Dr. Donehoo replaces Mr. Scott Fisher, who recently accepted a human resources position with Longview ISD in Longview, Texas. Mr. Fisher will move to his new position at the beginning of May this year.
Dr. Donehoo has 21 years of experience in public education. She began her career as a third grade teacher at Black Elementary School in the Mesquite Independent School District in Mesquite, Texas. She taught fourth grade at Thompson Elementary School, also in the Mesquite ISD from 1998 to 2001 before becoming the Testing Coordinator at Hodges Elementary School in Mesquite. Dr. Donehoo’s first campus administrator position was as an Assistant Principal at Rutherford Elementary School in Mesquite in 2004 before coming to Rhea Elementary School as the Assistant Principal in 2008.
Dr. Donehoo received her Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas and her Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She also earned her Doctorate in Education – Elementary Curriculum, Supervision and Instruction from Texas A&M University Commerce.
“Dr. Donehoo has always been a key factor in the academic success of Rhea Elementary School,” McWilliams noted. “She has been with Rhea Elementary since the school first opened in 2008 and will be a strong leader that will help the students and teachers continue to succeed!”
