FORNEY, Texas – On Saturday, Oct. 26 the Forney High School and North Forney High School marching bands took to the field to compete in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Area C Marching Band Competition and finished with high marks. Forney High School finished 4th in the competition with North Forney High School right behind them in 5th place.
With the top finishes, both schools advance to the UIL State Marching Band Competition that will be held in San Antonio, Texas in the Alamodome on Monday, Nov. 4 and Tuesday, Nov. 5.
This is the sixth year in a row that the Forney High School Marching Band has advanced to the state competition and the first time that the North Forney High School Marching Band has advanced.
The UIL State Marching Contest happens every other year. A total of 34, 5-A marching bands from across the state will compete at State Marching Contest. The preliminary competition will be held on Monday, Nov. 4 and the top 12 marching bands from the preliminary round advance to the finals on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The Forney High School Marching Band is under the direction of Jarod Garcia, Erin Funk and Riley Warren. The FHS Drumline is under the direction of Shannon Jacobs and the Colorguard Instructor is Casey Snead.
The North Forney High School Band is under the direction of Michael Kilgore, Jennifer Turner, and Jim Gist and the NFHS Drumline Instructor is Jordan Ferguson. The Colorguard Instructor is Katie Navarro.
