KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Kaufman County grand jury has handed down indictments for capital murder of multiple persons and murder in separate cases.
The grand jury indicted 64-year-old Ronald May on one count of murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife, 65-year-old Rita Hargrove May. Ronald was arrested in the early morning hours of February 12, 2019, after Rita was found deceased in their residence in the 7100 block of Farm-to-Market (FM) 2727.
Ronald May is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on charges for murder and deadly conduct on bonds totaling $5.5 million.
The grand jury also indicted 29-year-old Jermichael Maxie with capital murder of multiple persons in connection with the shooting deaths of 37-year-old Kenneth White Jr. and 25-year-old Markiest Lucky on January 12, 2019.
That day, police received back-to-back disturbance calls in the 300 block of Cottage and the 500 block of Frazier and, upon arrival, discovered the shooting victims deceased.
Maxie was initially only charged with one count of murder in the incidents. He has since been additionally charged with, in addition to the capital murder charge, out of state charges for larceny of an automobile and assault and battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling more than $4.05 million.
Maxie's arrest came two days after the shootings when he checked into Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas for an unknown medical issue. Police say a technician at the hospital recognized Maxie from media coverage and called local authorities.
The cases against Maxie and May are pending in the 86th District Court before Judge Casey Blair.
