The lightning struck the rear of the home and woke the family. The power in the neighborhood was briefly cut off, when it came back on, the family heard a bunch of crackling and popping coming from the attic.

The homeowner stated he went outside to see if it was his house that was struck by lightning and noticed an orange glow coming from the attic's soffit vents. He then ran inside to grab his family and smelled smoke, at the same time neighbors were now knocking at the door to let them know their house was on fire.

The first fire truck responded by approximately 12:08 a.m. and was soon joined by fire trucks from Forney, Crandall, Combine, and Kaufman. The flames quickly engulfed the second floor of the house and burned for approximately 2 hours before it was subdued.
