Local Man Among Eight Arrested in Federal "Operation Blue Laces" Takedown

Jamarian Augustus Hewitt, 39, of Forney, was arrested on April 2, 2026, on a federal contract charge pursuant to a major multi-agency investigation. The arrest was made by the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office in connection with "Operation Blue Laces," a sweeping federal crackdown targeting members of the 42 Oakland Crips street gang.

According to jail records, Hewitt was booked into the Kaufman County facility at 1:56 p.m. on the day of his arrest. While the primary charge listed is a federal contract hold initiated by the U.S. Marshals, court records associated with the federal indictment reveal that Hewitt faces serious allegations, including possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, being a felon in possession of a firearm (specifically a Ruger 9mm pistol), possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and using a communication facility to facilitate a drug felony.

The arrest of Hewitt follows a significant investigation led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). Prosecutors allege that the defendants, including Hewitt, were involved in daily drug distribution operations in the “Dead End” area of Dallas’ Casey Street. Evidence presented in federal court suggested that members of the conspiracy utilized encrypted text messages to monitor law enforcement activity and maintain their illicit operations despite previous police intervention.

During the coordinated takedown, authorities seized a substantial amount of contraband, including 14 firearms, over a kilogram of methamphetamine, various prescription narcotics, and more than $47,000 in cash.

The investigation involved a coalition of agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Dallas Police Department, and the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office. At this time, no bond has been set for Hewitt as he remains in custody under the federal contract.

f convicted on the federal charges, he could face significant prison time. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
