KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The City of Rosser in southwestern Kaufman County has been without power and water for nearly 48 hours, according to county emergency officials. Update: The power was restored at 8:04 p.m., according to Oncor.

Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie says Rosser has been without power since Saturday night when a series of severe weather, including tornadoes, swept across North Texas.

699 customers have been affected by the outage, according to Oncor.

Howie says, although not officially confirmed, residents reported seeing a tornado or funnel cloud in the Trinity River bottoms, just west of town.

Residents are also without water because the City of Rosser does not have a public water supply system and residents rely on powered well water systems, according to Howie.

Oncor Area Manager Terri Shatter says crews have been working to make repairs on a power pole, several cross arms, and several spans of wire in the area following the storms. Due to muddy conditions, crews have had to hand carry all their supplies and tools into the area.

Shatter says, as of 6:30 p.m., Oncor is anticipating a restoration in a couple of hours.

Rosser Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kenneth Orman says the Red Cross has supplied two pallets of water bottles, which are available at the fire station at 204 Main Street, and sandwiches. In addition to the Red Cross, Orman says food donations have poured in from surrounding communities and organizations.

Orman says area residents are prepared for cold conditions overnight with propane heaters and fire wood if the power is not restored.

This is a developing story.
