KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Kemp, Texas, man was re-indicted today by a Kaufman County grand jury for a March 11, 2014, murder to which he is scheduled for trial on May 18, 2015.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Kemp, Texas, man was re-indicted today by a Kaufman County grand jury for a March 11, 2014, murder to which he is scheduled for trial on May 18, 2015.
68-year-old William Raymond Simons, then 67, was originally indicted for murder on May 1, 2014, in the death of Roxie Whalter Quilter on March 11, 2014.
According to Kaufman County authorities, Simons called 911 on the night of the murder claiming to have shot Quilter after an alleged domestic dispute at their residence on Farm-to-Market (FM) 3396. Simons was arrested at the scene when deputies arrived. Quilter was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Simons is currently booked into the Kaufman County Jail for first-degree murder with a $500,000 bond.
Simons is scheduled for jury trial on May 18, 2015, at 9 a.m. in the 422nd District Court before Judge B. Michael Chitty, according to court records on Monday afternoon. Jury announcements are scheduled to begin May 14, 2015.
Re-indictments usually occur prior to a trial when the state or defense is seeking clarification in the original indictment, however, court representatives were unavailable at the time of press to clarify the reason for the re-indictment.
