TERRELL, Texas β Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom graduated in the 276th Session of the FBI's National Academy last week in Quantico, Virginia.
Sansom, a 32-year veteran of the Terrell Police Department, graduated among 256 other law enforcement personnel representing 49 states, the District of Columbia, 35 countries, five military organizations, and seven federal civilian organizations.
The National Academy is a 10-week course on advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training.
Sansom joined the Terrell Police Department in January 1988 and has served several different positions in his 32-year tenure including, as a patrol officer, D.A.R.E. officer/Juvenile Investigator, Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, SWAT team leader, SWAT commander, Patrol Lieutenant, and Captain of both the Patrol Division and Administrative Divisions.
Biography
Arley D. Sansom began his career with the Terrell Police Department in January 1988. He grew up in Sulphur Springs, Texas and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1985. He was very active in the Shannon Oaks Church and Fellowship of Christian Athletes during his formative years.
After receiving a Bible Scholarship for Outstanding Leadership, for his work with the Youth Faith-based Public Speaking program Lads to Leaders, he attended Abilene Christian University, with a Major in Biblical Studies. Later the following year, he transferred to East Texas State University studying Agri-Business where he continued his education until the time he took employment with Terrell Police Department.
Sansom attended the North Central Texas Regional Police Academy in Arlington, Texas, graduated in March 1988, and has served the City of Terrell his entire Law Enforcement Career.
The 52 year-old Terrell Police veteran has served the agency as a patrol officer, D.A.R.E. officer/Juvenile Investigator, Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, SWAT team leader, SWAT commander, Patrol Lieutenant and Captain of both the Patrol Division and Administrative Divisions, respectively during his near 32-year tenure with the Terrell Police Department.
Sansom holds a Master Peace Officer License. He has completed thousands of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) additional training hours. He is a TCOLE Firearms Instructor and ATV Safety Instructor. He has received dozens of awards, commendations and certificates of recognition during his service in Terrell, including a Mayoral Citation and a Chiefβs Accommodation Certificate.
Sansom is a recent graduate from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Session # 276. The commencement was in Quantico, VA, on June 7, 2019
He is currently serving as the Administrative Captain/Public Information Officer for Terrell Police Department.
He is strong Second Amendment advocate, Harley Davidson Motorcycle and Jeep enthusiast. He further enjoys public speaking, horseback riding, and dog training. He also serves as a volunteer at Stone Point Church in Wills Point, Texas.
He has one son, Sadler Cole Sansom, 14, of Rockwall, Texas.
