TVCC Theatre Department Shines Bright at KCACTF Region 6 Festival

Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) Theatre Department is bursting with excitement as it proudly announces its remarkable student and faculty achievements recognized at the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region 6. This annual festival, which celebrates the artistic flair of college theatre programs across five states, has once again illuminated the talent flourishing within the halls of TVCC.

Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) Theatre Department is bursting with excitement as it proudly announces its remarkable student and faculty achievements recognized at the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region 6. This annual festival, which celebrates the artistic flair of college theatre programs across five states, has once again illuminated the talent flourishing within the halls of TVCC.

The department's recent production of “The Book Club” received glowing responses from esteemed festival respondents, who provided invaluable feedback and recognition. Elizabeth “Biz” Nelson, the Head of Technical Design at TVCC and Co-Chair of KCACTF Region 6, emphasized the importance of this festival as a platform for students to gain insights and training opportunities from industry professionals and educators from around the nation.

Among the highlights of the festival, three talented students were nominated for the illustrious Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship. The nominees, each showcasing their unique abilities, include:

- Pluto Wilson as Ana Smith - Scott Peebles as Robert Novum Smith Jr. - Riley O'Donnell as William Nothnagel

Notably, this marks Riley O'Donnell's second nomination for the Irene Ryan Scholarship during his time at TVCC, underscoring his continued dedication and talent in the performing arts.

In addition to individual accolades, the entire cast of “The Book Club” received a Meritorious Achievement Award for Excellence in Ensemble Acting. Furthermore, TVCC Director of Theatre Craig Lee was recognized for his exceptional leadership with a Meritorious Achievement Award for Excellence in Production Direction, while Nelson earned accolades for her outstanding work in Costume Design.

Adding to the excitement, “The Book Club” is currently being considered for performance at the KCACTF regional festival, a testament to the production's excellence. "This is a high honor for our students and our department," expressed Lee. "It signifies that our work was recognized as some of the best in the region this year, competing alongside productions from universities and community colleges."

The KCACTF Region 6 festival will take place from February 23 to 27 in Abilene, Texas, where colleges and universities from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Louisiana will gather for workshops, showcase the finest regional productions, and celebrate the hard work and creativity of students.

Looking ahead, the TVCC Theatre Department is already gearing up for its next exciting production, “Working: The Musical,” set to grace the stage in the spring of 2025. With such dedication and talent on display, there’s no doubt that the future is bright for the TVCC Theatre Department. As they continue to inspire and engage audiences, the community eagerly awaits the next chapter in their theatrical journey.
