FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Department and the Kaufman County Street Crimes Task Force are investigating two shootings in Forney today, Saturday, January 6, 2024.
Around 10:30 p.m., the Forney Police Department notified residents in the area of Lonesome Dove Lane and Ridgecrest of a large police presence due to a confirmed shooting in the area.
Residents were advised a helicopter would be circling overhead as investigators pieced together the circumstances surrounding the shooting and worked to identify possible suspect(s).
"Please avoid the area and remain in your residence if possible," read a statement, in part, from the department. "If you witness any activity you believe is suspicious, report it immediately to the Forney Police Department via 911."
"Officers are still conducting the investigation, including speaking with witnesses," stated the department in an update Saturday night. "There will be a continued police presence in the area."
"Intelligence suggests the suspect has left the area. Individuals are still encouraged to remain vigilant but it is believed to be safe to exit your residence should you need to."
The first shooting was reported around 1 a.m., though police have not confirmed any relation between the two incidents.
Forney police were alerted to the sounds of gunshots on the first incident in the 100 block of Wandering Way, not too far northwest of the second shooting Saturday night.
Fortunately, police say, no injuries were reported in the first shooting.
"Security cameras in the area captured footage of multiple individuals firing shots at a residence," stated the Forney Police Department.
