FORNEY, TEXAS — March 27, 2025 — The City of Forney has been awarded D CEO’s Magazine Best Retail Development of the Year for The Village at Gateway, a transformative project that is set to become one of the largest retail developments in the state of Texas.
Mayor Jason Roberson expressed his enthusiasm following the announcement:

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and vision of our partners—Street Level Investments, the City of Forney staff, the Forney Economic Development Corporation, and both our current and previous City Council members. Their hard work and collaboration have brought this project to life, creating opportunities that will benefit our community for years to come. This is just the beginning!”
The Village at Gateway is poised to reshape Forney’s economic and commercial future. Phase I of the development will include:
• A 140,000-square-foot Target
• An over 100,000-square-foot Home Depot
• An additional 130,000 square feet of junior anchor retailers
• 60,000 square feet dedicated to convenience retail, fast casual, and sit-down restaurants
• Approximately 10 outparcels for future tenants
According to developers, The Village at Gateway will be a regional retail, service, and dining destination—serving not only Forney residents, but attracting visitors from across the region.
This award marks a major milestone for Forney as it continues to emerge as a key player in North Texas growth.
