KAUFMAN—On June 11th, the Kaufman County Commissioners approved receiving a $3,000 Dollar General grant, a significant boost for the Kaufman Library’s summer reading program.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF), a champion of literacy, has generously donated over $250M to local areas, including ours, in support of adult, family, and children’s literacy advancement. Each year, the DGLF supports non-profit organizations, schools, and libraries within a fifteen-mile radius of Dollar General stores and distribution centers.
“The Kaufman County Library received this grant from Dollar General; we’ve received it in the past, (as) every three years it kind of cycles around,” said Yasma Holland, Director of the Kaufman County Library. “This year, we’ll be using those (dollars); we’ll have to put a little more with it, to purchase an AWE Learning Computer, and it also has an after-school age component that goes up to age 12.”
Holland said the library currently has four AWE Learning Computers, which are very popular, with over 500 games and learning activities on them.
The Commissioners unanimously approved the acceptance of the grant.
