Kaufman's Community Economic Development Award

Kaufman's Community Economic Development Award

KAUFMAN COUNTY—The Kaufman Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) will receive the Community Economic Development Award from the Texas Economic Development Council.

This award is for the land acquisition partnership the Kaufman EDC completed with the Trinity Valley Community College Foundation last October. According to Stewart McGregor, the Executive Director of the KEDC, the property could generate approximately $337 million in new taxable values and create hundreds of primary jobs. The Trinity Valley Community College Foundation has committed 100% of the proceeds to fund scholarships for students.

"We are grateful to the Texas Economic Development Council for their recognition as a Community Economic Development Award winner. This is Kaufman's first CEDA award and we appreciate the partnership of TVCC in working to benefit our community for decades to come,” said McGregor in a statement to inForney.com.

“The impact of this transaction goes beyond monetary value as it is reinvesting in the people of Kaufman and Kaufman County through scholarships and future employment opportunities."

According to a statement by McGregor, this land acquisition partnership was highlighted as one of three finalists for "Best Land Deal" by the Dallas Business Journal at their Best Real Estate Deals Awards earlier in the spring. The International Economic Development Council for postsecondary partnerships also awarded it a "silver" award for cities 25,000 and under in its Excellence in Economic Development Awards.

“Our Community Economic Development Award is one of the ways in which our

organization honors the excellent work done by our communities, their leaders, and their economic development professionals,” noted Carlton Schwab, President & CEO, Texas Economic Development Council.

“Each community nominated achieved excellence in economic development and substantially improved the economic base of their respective regions. The recipient communities in each population category were recognized for extraordinary accomplishments in meeting the criteria set forth in the nomination process.”
