FORNEY, Texas — An 18-year-old was arrested in Forney after a high-speed police chase in a stolen vehicle on Tuesday morning.

FORNEY, Texas — An 18-year-old was arrested in Forney after a high-speed police chase in a stolen vehicle on Tuesday morning.

Around 11:20 a.m., a Forney Police Department police officer, in a marked police vehicle, was conducting traffic operations on eastbound U.S. Highway 80 near County Road 212.

As the police officer began moving, to initiate a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle, the suspect vehicle immediately accelerated, exited Windmill Farms Boulevard, and traveled westbound on the U.S. Highway 80 service road at a high rate of speed, Forney Police Department Chief Rob Sherwin told inForney.com.

The pursuit continued northbound on Pinson Road at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour, west on Farm-to-Market (FM) 741 where the suspect vehicle cut through the Criswell Elementary parking lot, striking an object, or pole. The suspect vehicle stopped on FM 741 at Redbud Drive and was taken into custody without further incident.

The driver, 18-year-old Armoni Carraway, was arrested and charged with evading arrest with previous conviction, a third-degree felony, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state-jail felony.
