TERRELL, Texas — Two people were killed in an early Monday morning crash involving a vehicle reportedly stolen out of Terrell.
At approximately 12:40 a.m., Dallas Police Department patrol officers located the truck, reported fresh stolen out of Terrell, traveling in the area of C.F. Hawn Freeway and Kleberg Road.
"The officers initiated a traffic stop as the stolen truck took the Simonds/Kleberg exit," stated Dallas Police Department Public Information Officer Tamika A. Dameron. "The driver of the stolen truck turned right onto West Simonds Road and rapidly accelerated to elude officers."
"The patrol officers did not pursue and turned off their emergency equipment," stated Dameron.
A short distance from where officers disengaged, the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a tree near the intersection of West Simonds Road and Kleberg Road.
Two people inside the truck were pronounced deceased at the scene. Two others were taken to an area hospital — one with injuries described as serious. Police have not released identifications on any of the individuals involved pending notification of next of kin.
Dameron says the incident remains an ongoing investigation.
