MABANK, Texas — 48 dogs were rescued from a Mabank home and investigators say the elderly homeowner may now face animal cruelty charges.

MABANK, Texas — 48 dogs were rescued from a Mabank home and investigators say the elderly homeowner may now face animal cruelty charges.

The dogs, described as malnourished, sick, and infected, were rescued from a home in the 100 block of Shady Shores Drive in Mabank, Texas, according to a release from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office on Monday morning.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and SPCA of Dallas officials rescued the animals on Saturday morning from the residence where they were living in their own waste, covered in fleas, suffering from mange, lacking proper water, and had internal parasites, according to the sheriff’s office.

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse says the homeowner, 73-year-old Betty Kennedy, is now facing charges for animal cruelty.

All ages of chihuahuas, yorkies, Shih Tzu and schnauzer mix dogs were rescued and taken to facilities in Dallas, Texas.

Henderson County Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Milton Adams signed the warrant to search the residence.
