FORNEY, Texas — Five possible suspects have been identified in a series of burglaries at Forney High School and North Forney High School.
Three incidents at Forney High School are being investigated by the Forney Police Department and three to four incidents at North Forney High School are being investigated by the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, according to officials.
The individuals have all been identified as former and current students of North Forney High School, according to the Forney Police Department.
Forney Police Department Captain Jason “Rocky” Ray told inForney.com the individuals face multiple charges for the incidents at Forney High School including burglary of a building, engaging in organized criminal activity, criminal trespass, and evading arrest.
Investigators believe a set of keys was stolen around the first week of the summer which the individuals used to access the two campuses on multiple occasions.
Cash was stolen from North Forney High School in one incident and was used to purchase, among other things, fuel, food, clothing, and tennis shoes. Most of the recoverable items have been recovered, according to Ray.
Ray says the incidents at Forney High School date back to the beginning of August, and possibly earlier.
Overnight on Tuesday of this week, Forney Police Department officers confronted several individuals inside Forney High School — two of which fled on foot and are now facing an additional charge of evading arrest.
The night before, the individuals are suspected of entering North Forney High School to play soccer.
The stolen set of keys have also been recovered.
In addition to the criminal charges, returning students will likely be placed in a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) according to terms outlined in the Forney Independent School District’s Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
The case remains an active and ongoing investigation and, as such, the names of the individuals were not released.
This is a developing story.
