KAUFMAN, Texas — Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of an inmate at the Kaufman County jail overnight.
Authorities say that at approximately 3 AM Sunday morning, KCSO jail staff found a white, male inmate unresponsive in his cell. Jail staff reportedly began CPR and the inmate was transported to Texas Health Resources Hospital in Kaufman via ambulance, however, was later pronounced deceased.
KCSO spokesman Jolie Stewart tells inForney.com that while the investigation has just begun, there appears to be no signs of foul play.
The identity of the man has not been released, pending notification of the inmate’s next of kin according to officials. The man’s body has been transported to the Dallas County Medical examiner’s office for autopsy.
