FORNEY, Texas — A brief police pursuit of a reported reckless driver ended in a crash on Spur 557 on Saturday night.
Just before 7:30 p.m., the Forney Police Department responded to eastbound U.S. Highway 80 for a reported reckless driver who was swerving between lanes and had run at least one vehicle off the road.
Officers located the vehicle on eastbound U.S. Highway 80 in the area of County Road 212. The driver failed to yield to police who had attempted a traffic stop and continued fleeing eastbound on U.S. Highway 80.
The driver fled approximately five miles at speeds of approximately 60 miles per hour before merging onto Spur 557 and wrecking into another vehicle just before the Las Lomas Parkway exit.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
Police arrested Michael Cooks and charged him with driving while intoxicated 2nd, evading arrest of detention with a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 2 less than one gram. Cooks is being held at the Kaufman County jail on $10,000, $20,000, and $15,000 bonds, respectively.
Spur 557 was briefly closed and the left lane was later reopened.
