PAYNE SPRINGS, Texas — A Henderson county couple, both Payne Springs city officials are in custody tonight as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department.

Henderson County Jail officials tell that both Payne Springs City Secretary Karen Juica and her husband, Payne Springs City Councilman Michael Juica are in custody overnight and awaiting arraignment later today on two charges each after they were apprehended by authorities on Thursday.

Karen Clark Juica, 59, has been charged with two counts of forgery of a government document. Her husband, Michael Steven Juica, 66, is being held on one charge of forgery of a government document and one count of abuse of official capacity.

392nd District Judge R. Scott McKee signed the arrest warrants for the couple according to jail records.

Mrs. Juica was put on administrative leave from her duties as Payne Springs City Secretary on Monday after an emergency council meeting was called to deliberate her employment, and the impending investigation according to council records.

The Juica’s book in photos and bond information is expected to be released on Thursday.
