FORNEY, Texas — An escaped inmate was quickly re-captured after a brief manhunt in Forney on Sunday.
At approximately 3:28 p.m., earlier today, February 4, 2024, the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office was conducting a prisoner transfer from the Forney Police Department to the Kaufman County Jail when 20-year-old Kenneth Minafee III slipped out of his restraints and ran from officers on foot.
Minafee was being held at the Forney Municipal Jail on charges for burglary of a building and had initially been arrested by the Forney Police Department yesterday, February 3.
Law enforcement personnel from the Forney Police Department, Terrell Police Department, Precinct 2 Constable's Office and the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office mobilized to the area near the Forney Justice Center in search of Minafee.
After approximately 20 minutes, Minafee was back in custody, according to the sheriff's office.
"Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office will be looking at its department’s policies and procedures for any violation regarding this incident," read a statement from the office.
Minafee has since been booked into the Kaufman County Jail on the original burglary of a building charges and an additional charge for escape. Bonds were set at $40,000 and $75,000, respectively.
This is an ongoing investigation.
