KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Police have apprehended five suspects who led them on a brief pursuit after allegedly perpetrating an armed home invasion wearing police tactical gear and identifying themselves as police officers.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Police have apprehended five suspects who led them on a brief pursuit after allegedly perpetrating an armed home invasion wearing police tactical gear and identifying themselves as police officers.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office initially received a call after noon of a home invasion on County Road (CR) 272, according to Kaufman County Sheriff's Office Captain Fred Klingelberger. The victim reported an armed home invasion.
The suspect’s vehicle description was broadcast to surrounding agencies and was located on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148 traveling northbound towards Interstate 20. Police pursued the vehicle into portions of south Terrell and onto Rosehill Road, south of Interstate 20.
The suspect's vehicle crashed through a barbed-wire fence at Rosehill Road and Interstate 20 and fled south through a field where the individuals bailed and fled on foot.
Police set a perimeter and searched an area near CR 303, CR 304, FM 2578, and Interstate 20.
At 12:53 p.m., one suspect was taken into custody and two others were taken into custody at approximately 1:45 p.m. At 4:45 p.m., Klingelberger announced all five suspects had been apprehended
The suspects have been identified as 17-year-old Michael Scott Nelson, 17-year-old Diamond Malik Gibbs, 19-year-old Casey Wyatt Minshew, 24-year-old Aaron Duane White, and 27-year-old Brandon Cole Thompson, according to Kaufman County Jail records. Each was charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest or detention on bonds totaling $205,000.
A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter assisted in the manhunt as well as the Terrell Police Department, Crandall Police Department, the Forney Police Department, and the Kaufman County Constable's Office from Precincts 1 and 3. A K-9 unit and the Texas Department of Corrections mounted horse and blood hound units had also been dispatched — aiding in the ultimate capture of the remaining two suspects.
