Rockwall, Texas β The former Hunt County Constable who was charged earlier this year in the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Jessica Aguilar, and the shooting of her male companion, Francisco Delacruz, at the Rockwall Harbor pled guilty yesterday.
On Thursday, October 3, 2013, Judge David Rakow of the 439th District Court in Rockwall County sentenced 48-year-old Anthony Dewayne Lewis to 60 years for the murder of Aguilar and 15 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon of Delacruz.
On February 16, 2013, around 8:00 p.m., Lewis gunned down Aguilar and Delacruz in an overflow parking lot near the Cinemark Theatre in the Rockwall Harbor entertainment district. Lewis then fled the scene in a black Mini Cooper into Garland.
Witnesses at the scene of the shooting were able to describe the vehicle to police. Shortly after, Garland police spotted the vehicle at approximately 8:22 p.m. in Garland, Texas. Lewis then led police on a multi-county police chase that eventually ended just west of Greenville, Texas. A Department of Public Safety helicopter joined the pursuit that saw speeds up to 130 miles per hour.
The chase ended after Lewis' vehicle hit spike strips and eventually came to a stop. According to Rockwall Police, Lewis βexited his vehicle, pointed a handgun at the officers, and was shot by officers on the scene.β
After being treated for his wounds, Lewis was later booked into the Rockwall County detention center.
Lewis will serve the 60 year sentence and 15 year sentence concurrently. Lewis accepted a plea bargain arrangement for lesser sentencing.
In 1996, Lewis served two consecutive terms as Precinct 2 Constable in Hunt County.
