FORNEY, Texas — A Forney High School teacher, who was with the district for less than a year, has resigned after being arrested and charged with online solicitation of a minor.

36-year-old Simon Lopez, a Spanish teacher and assistant girls basketball coach, was arrested May 14, 2015, and charged with online solicitation of a minor, according to jail records. No bond has been set.

Lopez, who has been teaching for nine years, according to his district profile, began teaching in the Forney Independent School District this year. Lopez was placed on administrative leave over a week ago after allegations arose over a possible inappropriate relationship with a student, according to district officials.

The school took immediate action following the allegations, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Captain Fred Klingelberger told inForney.com adding that the investigation is still ongoing.

Forney Independent School District spokesperson Larry Coker confirmed Lopez’s resignation earlier today.
