FORNEY, Texas — One Forney man was arrested following a Sunday night stabbing which resulted in one person being taken to the hospital.

Just before 10:30 p.m., on Sunday, February 1, 2015, the Forney Police Department received a call about a stabbing on Warbler Drive in the Grayhawk neighborhood. Before officers arrived, the alleged suspect, identified as Steven Austin Mitchell, fled the scene in his truck.

Approximately an hour after the stabbing was reported, the Mitchell was arrested at the Fuel Zone Shell gas station at the intersection of Lake June Road and South Peachtree Road in Balch Springs, Texas, and transferred into the Forney Police Department's custody.

Witnesses told police Mitchell arrived at the residence of the attack, got out of his truck, and began attacking the victim — who suffered multiple stab wounds. "After realizing he had been stabbed, the victim tried to run to the neighbor’s house next door to get away from Mitchell," according to a release from the Forney POlice Department. "Mitchell chased the victim around the neighbor’s vehicles which were parked in the neighbor’s driveway. The neighbor was able to get the victim and another member of the victim’s family into their house to protect them."

The stabbing victim, who has not been identified, was transported by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, with unknown injuries.

Mitchell, who remains at the Forney City Jail, is charged with aggravated assault against a date, household, or family member with a weapon, a first-degree felony, and is being held on a $250,000 bond
