Forney man arrested following high-speed, multi-county pursuit

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — One person was arrested following a high-speed pursuit which began in Kaufman County and ended in Henderson County on Friday night.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — One person was arrested following a high-speed pursuit which began in Kaufman County and ended in Henderson County on Friday night.

Just after 7:30 p.m., a Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on a blue two-door Dodge Challenger on eastbound U.S. Highway 175 near Crandall when it fled from the deputy.

The man in the vehicle, identified as 47-year-old Tommy Ray Hanson of Forney, Texas, led police on a high-speed pursuit at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, continuing eastbound through Kaufman, Kemp, Mabank, and into Henderson County.

Klingelberger says police were able to spike the vehicle's tires in Athens where Hanson where he was taken into custody without further incident in the parking lot of a Budget Inn.

Several agencies in the pursuit’s path joined the chase which also saw assistance from a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.

Hanson was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and evading arrest or detention with previous conviction. He is being held in the Kaufman County Jail on a $30,000 surety bond on the evading charge.
