FORNEY, Texas — A Forney man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for indecency with a child by sexual contact, Kaufman County District Attorney Erleigh Wiley announced yesterday.
27-year-old Alexander James Chavez of Forney, Texas, was sentenced Friday by 86th District Court Judge Casey Blair to 15 years in the Texas Department of Corrections.
On April 11, 2019, Chavez was found guilty by a jury following a two and a half day trial. He had been indicted in May 2018 on the charge.
At the time of his indictment, Chavez was also indicted on a second charge for indecency with a child by sexual contact and three counts of aggravated sexual assault. Those cases, according to county records, are still pending in the 86th District Court.
The prosecution was led by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Heather Ragsdale, Shelton Gibbs, and Robyn Beckham, and was assisted by District Attorney Investigator Daniel Hargrove.
"We would like to recognize the Forney Police Department, Kaufman County Children’s Advocacy Center, and other state agencies that assisted with the prosecution of this case, and help send a clear message that crimes against children are not tolerated in Kaufman County," read a statement from the District Attorney's Office.
