FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Department is investigating an overnight burglary at a gun store in Forney in which several firearms were reported stolen.

The Forney Police Department, with assistance from the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, a Kaufman County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit, and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter, searched the area for several hours overnight.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video and observed three individuals who were wearing hoodies, masks, and gloves. The individuals were believed to have jumped a security fence at the rear of the building and used a truck from a neighboring business to ram the gun store to gain entrance.

Approximately 11 firearms were reported stolen, five handguns were recovered overnight in the area of the burglary, and approximately six firearms remain outstanding — including two AR-15s and four handguns, according to the Forney Police Department.

The Forney Police Department was first notified of the burglary at CYA Guns and Ammo, located in the 200 block of East U.S. Highway 80, after an alarm call at approximately 1:29 a.m. Responding officers observed a truck, still running, at the back of the store as well as flashlights and a trail of debris leading away from the business.

Investigators continue to review surveillance video and are expected to release some video to the public in the coming days.

Police are asking anyone with surveillance footage in the area of the business or surrounding residential neighborhoods to contact Forney Police Department Sergeant S. Prewitt at (972) 564-7607. Additionally, anyone who may have information about this crime can contact the Kaufman County Crime Stoppers at (877) 847-7522 to submit an anonymous tip.

In December 2016, would-be burglars attempted to ram through the exterior wall of Gotta Have Guns, just on the other side of the highway from CYA, but were unsuccessful.

This is a developing story.
