FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Department is warning of a possible door-to-door utilities scam in the area.
“It has been brought to our attention that there may be a person or persons pretending to be employees of a utility company making contact with resident owners and distracting them while another person enters the residence to steal items,” the department stated on Wednesday.
“If anyone approaches you and claims to be an employee of a company or that they are a service technician for a utility company (or any type of company), make sure to ask for ID,” stated the department. “Reputable companies have their employees wear ID badges and have marked vehicles.”
Additionally, the Forney Police Department says you can call and confirm with the represented company as to whether or not they have employees in the area — whether or not you scheduled the maintenance or not.
“A recent incident where a scam is believed to have occurred describes two Hispanic males, one slender clean cut, about 5'9" wearing a yellow orange reflective vest,” stated the department. “The other male is being 6'2" with facial hair wearing a yellow reflective vest.”
The subjects arrived in a gray four door passenger car unknown make or model.
