GUN BARREL CITY, Texas — A felon wanted in connection with a home invasion and kidnapping in Gun Barrel City has been arrested, the department stated Sunday.
GUN BARREL CITY, Texas — A felon wanted in connection with a home invasion and kidnapping in Gun Barrel City has been arrested, the department stated Sunday.
“The suspect in the home invasion and kidnapping that occurred in the Willowwood subdivision, Timothy Berry, was apprehended north of Seven Points today, April 9, 2017,” the department stated.
On Monday, Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse provided details in Berry's arrest which led to additional charges being filed for evading arrest or detention with vehicle, evading arrest or detention with previous conviction, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and three counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.
Hillhouse says, on Sunday, investigators were made aware of Berry's location near County Road 2105 west of Seven Points. Henderson County Chief Deputy Kevin Halbert observed Berry enter a vehicle, Halbert attempted to stop the vehicle, and Berry fled.
Berry allegedly attempted to crash his vehicle into of two other investigators who joined the pursuit before Berry exited the vehicle and fled on foot on County Road 4404, according to Hillhouse.
While fleeing on foot, Berry discharged two rounds from a handgun at the pursuing officers, Hillhouse stated. None of the deputies were struck by the gunfire.
"Berry eventually threw down his pistol was taken into custody without any shots being fired by deputies," stated Hillhouse.
41-year-old Berry was allegedly armed with a handgun when he forcibly entered a home on Willowwood Drive last week and held his estranged wife, the homeowner, and the homeowner’s son hostage for approximately one-and-a-half hours.
“The hostages were able to distract Berry and flee the residence,” the department previously stated.
Berry was considered “armed and extremely dangerous” as police began searching for him last week. Berry, of Scurry, Texas, according to jail records, was known to frequent areas of Tool, Scurry, and Seven Points, where he was located earlier today.
In addition to the previous charges, Berry is charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 less than one gram, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by felon, and violation of a bond or protective order, according to Henderson County Jail records. He is being held on bonds totaling $803,500.
