High-speed pursuit from Forney ends in gunfire in southeast Dallas, suspect killed

FORNEY, Texas — A high-speed police pursuit from Forney ended in southeast Dallas on Tuesday morning in an officer-involved shooting.

FORNEY, Texas — A high-speed police pursuit from Forney ended in southeast Dallas on Tuesday morning in an officer-involved shooting.

The pursuit began just after 4 a.m.

Forney Police Department officers were responding to a suspicious vehicle call at Best Western when the vehicle fled at a high-rate of speed southbound on Pinson Road, westbound on Broad Street, and eventually onto westbound U.S. Highway 80.

"Shortly thereafter, Mesquite Police and Dallas Sheriff’s officers became involved in the vehicle pursuit," stated Dallas Police Department Maj. Max Geron.

The pursuit continued at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour through Mesquite and into southeast Dallas where two female occupants of the vehicle bailed on foot and were apprehended.

The driver of the vehicle continued to flee and later bailed on Riverwood Road and exchanged gunfire with police.

"According to witnesses, upon stopping his vehicle, the suspect got out of his car and began shooting at officers, striking a Forney Police squad car," stated Geron. "Officers from the Forney Police Department and Mesquite Police Department returned fire at the suspect striking and killing him."

The Dallas Police Department identified the deceased suspect as 36-year-old Gary Wayne Jones.

No other injuries were reported.
