SEAGOVILLE, Texas — A juvenile is in custody after threatening family and police with a toy replica of a handgun.
Wednesday afternoon, Seagoville police responded to a family disturbance call in the 1000 block of Shadybrook Lane.
Upon arrival officers learned that an armed juvenile suspect had forced other family members out of the home. After negotiations with officers, the suspect appeared on the front porch wearing a Halloween mask and holding a handgun.
Police say the suspect refused commands to surrender or relinquish his weapon and “taunted” them to use deadly force. According to police, an officer was able to gain a tactical position and deploy a taser that was successful in causing the suspect to drop his weapon.
He was taken into custody without further incident. Upon further investigation the officers discovered that the suspect’s handgun was an airsoft toy gun, a replica of a large frame semi-automatic handgun.
“All officers involved in this call exhibited exceptional restraint in this potential deadly force situation,” Seagoville Police Chief Ray Calverly said in a statement released to inForney.com. “This is a reflection of the professionalism and training of officers in the Seagoville Police Department.”
The chief said replica weapons look very much like the real thing.
