KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – 44-year-old Juan Manuel Bermudez was arrested and charged with murder for the shooting death of his brother-in-law, 32-year-old Manuel Contreras-Carvajal.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – 44-year-old Juan Manuel Bermudez was arrested and charged with murder for the shooting death of his brother-in-law, 32-year-old Manuel Contreras-Carvajal.
Kaufman County Sheriff's Office Captain Fred Klingelberger said it all began when Contreras-Carvajal's common-law wife began staying at, her brother, Bermudez's home in the 1000 block of Lakeview Circle, just north of Kaufman, Texas, following a family violence incident with Contreras-Carvajal.
Contreras-Carvajal visited Bermudez's home on Sunday night, August 24, 2014, in an attempt to make contact with his wife when Bermudez intervened and shot Contreras-Carvajal once in the upper torso with a handgun.
Contreras-Carvajal was taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Texas, and was later flown by helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, where he was pronounced dead.
Bermudez was originally charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon but the charge was enhanced to murder with a $300,000 bond.
Authorities are still awaiting the results of an autopsy.
