On March 30, 2013, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, 63, and his wife, Cynthia McLelland, 65, were found shot to death inside their home on Blarney Stone Way in Kaufman County, Texas, just miles from the Forney city limits.

Lt. Justin Lewis with the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office stated, "We are [Kaufman County Sheriff's Office] investigating the deaths of the Kaufman County District Attorney and his wife. We are in the preliminary stages of the investigation and we have no other information at this time."
The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation were at the crime scene late Saturday night. These murders come just two months after Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was gunned down just outside the Kaufman County Courthouse on January 31, 2013, in broad daylight.
