KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office was in a standoff with a possibly armed man who was barricaded in a home near Kemp, Texas.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office was in a standoff with a possibly armed man who was barricaded in a home near Kemp, Texas.
Police were called to the home, located on County Road 4057, at approximately 2 p.m. after the man doused the home in gasoline and threatened to ignite it on fire.
Responding officers reported light smoke coming from the home, according to Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Captain Fred Klingelberger. Area fire departments and EMS were placed on standby near the home. Members of the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office SWAT team also responded to the standoff.
After approximately two-and-a-half hours, the standoff was called off, according to Klingelberger who said the man was not wanted for any violent crimes.
Other than the initial report of light smoke, no fire was reported and the fire departments were released from standby.
