ABLE SPRINGS, Texas — The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 12-year-old Able Springs boy in the 16,000 block of County Road (CR) 339.

ABLE SPRINGS, Texas — The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 12-year-old Able Springs boy in the 16,000 block of County Road (CR) 339.

According to Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Captain Fred Klingelberger, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the boys’ uncle and grandfather at approximately 10:20 a.m. after Terrell ISD officials notified the family the boy did not arrive at school.

The boy, a 7th grade student at Furlough Middle School, was discovered in the family’s home with a head wound and pronounced dead at the scene by Kaufman County Justice of the Peace Mike Smith. The cause of death is still under investigation, according to Klingelberger.

Law enforcement officials are awaiting an autopsy report from the medical examiner’s office. The boy's name has not been released.

"Our Terrell ISD family is deeply saddened to learn of the death of one of our 7th grade students, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family," stated a release from Terrell ISD. "This loss will affect many of our students, staff, and community members. Our counselors will be available on campus to help our school community deal with the tragedy. Able Springs is located just north east of Terrell, Texas, along Farm-to-Market (FM) 429.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting in the investigation.
