FORNEY, Texas — The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an overnight robbery of a gas station.
Around 1:24 a.m., a male wearing a mask, jeans, and a long-sleeved shirt walked into the Shell gas station on Helms Trail, near Interstate 20, and demanded cash and cigarettes.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart says no weapon was displayed during the robbery.
Its unknown if the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle. Investigators are reviewing in-store video surveillance.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Earlier this year, in May, police say at least three suspects attempted to steal an ATM from this location. Their efforts were unsuccessful but resulted in significant damage to the front of the store.
In December 2016, a man and woman robbed the gas station at gunpoint. Both fled in separate vehicles and the man was later apprehended on Interstate 20 near the Kaufman-Van Zandt County line.
In February 2016, thieves again unsuccessfully attempted to steal the ATM and, instead, robbed the store owner of the cash from the register.
