KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a bail money scam which often targets elderly residents.
“Scam Artists are calling family members claiming to be helping a family member arrange bail money and then have large sums of money wired to another location,” the department stated on Wednesday afternoon.
“Please DO NOT send money to anyone who contacts you by phone without first verifying their claims or business is legitimate,” the department stated. “Please pass this information on to elderly family members, as they are often targeted.”
If you suspect someone is trying to defraud you, do not send money, and immediately contact law enforcement.
