Kaufman man indicted for intoxication manslaughter in deadly August accident

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas β€” A Kaufman, Texas, man was indicted by a Kaufman County grand jury earlier today for intoxication manslaughter in a deadly August head-on collision which killed a Balch Springs, Texas, man and injured two others.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas β€” A Kaufman, Texas, man was indicted by a Kaufman County grand jury earlier today for intoxication manslaughter in a deadly August head-on collision which killed a Balch Springs, Texas, man and injured two others.

24-year-old Ramon Ramirez of Kaufman, Texas, was indicted on one count of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.

On August 17, 2014, at approximately 8 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety investigators said Ramirez was driving southbound on Farm-to-Market (FM) 2727, approximately two miles north of Kaufman, Texas, when he crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a pickup truck head-on β€” resulting in the death of 63-year-old Randy Ray Edwards of Balch Springs, Texas.

Two medical helicopters responded to the accident scene and transported two patients.

36-year-old Crystal Anne Moon of Mesquite, Texas, a passenger in the truck, was flown to a Tyler, Texas, hospital and Ramirez was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. 19-year-old Cory Watts of Austin, Texas, also an occupant of the truck, was transported by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Texas.
