Kaufman man’s assault on father escalating to homicide charges after death

KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman man jailed for the aggravated assault of his father is now facing homicide charges after his father succumbed to injuries sustained in a fight between the two last month, The Kaufman Herald reports.

KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman man jailed for the aggravated assault of his father is now facing homicide charges after his father succumbed to injuries sustained in a fight between the two last month, The Kaufman Herald reports.

29-year-old Justin Lee Heather was arrested on September 30, 2014, after striking his father, identified as Johnny Heather, several times with his fists, Kaufman Police Department Captain Edward Black told the paper. The father fell and hit his head on a concrete patio.

The elder Heather was being treated at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, until his death earlier today.

Homicide charges are expected on Monday. Justin Heather was booked into the Kaufman County Jail on October 1, 2014, and is currently being held on a $150,000 bond for the aggravated assault causes serious bodily injury charge.
