KAUFMAN, Texas — A 25-year-old Kaufman man was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison in connection with an armed robbery in Spanish Fort, Alabama, prosecutors announced Tuesday morning.

25-year-old Patrick Miller of Kaufman was fighting an addiction problem and staying with family members in Alabama at the time of the robbery, according to federal prosecutors.

On Christmas Day, 2017, Miller, armed with a handgun, walked into the Circle K Convenience Store, located at 6490 Old Spanish Trail in Spanish Fort, Alabama, grabbed a six-pack of Bud Light, requested a pack of Camel Turkish Royal Blend cigarettes, and then lifted his shirt — displaying a handgun which was tucked into his waistband, according to a factual statement signed by Miller in connection with his guilty plea in the case.

Miller told the clerk, "this is no joke, and I want all the money in the register."

Another store patron followed Miller out of the store and provided police with a description of his vehicle.

Following a news broadcast of the robbery, and law enforcement's release of surveillance video, Miller's employer and a family member also called police and provided additional details which led to his arrest.

In addition to the 84-month prison term for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of vilence, Miller was ordered to pay $387.20 in restitution to the convenience store.
