MABANK, Texas — A Mabank man was shot, arrested, and later charged with attempted capital murder after shooting at deputies responding to his home for an alleged domestic disturbance involving a firearm.
MABANK, Texas — A Mabank man was shot, arrested, and later charged with attempted capital murder after shooting at deputies responding to his home for an alleged domestic disturbance involving a firearm.
At approximately 9:56 p.m., on January 22, 2015, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office was responding to the domestic disturbance call in the 200 block of North Cherokee Shores Drive in the Cherokee Shores neighborhood south of Mabank, Texas.
When officers arrived, they met the female caller outside the residence and were told the man, 48-year-old Steven Clement Rei, of Mabank, Texas, displayed a 9mm handgun, according to a release from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Rei exited the residence and confronted the deputies with a shotgun. “Rei fired the shotgun at one of the Deputies who returned fire striking Rei,” states the release. No other injuries were reported.
Rei was transported to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas, in stable condition and is facing an attempted capital murder charge.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and investigators from the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office immediately responded to the shooting. The Texas Rangers are investigating.
“In following with procedure, the deputies involved were placed on paid administrative leave,” states the release.
