MABANK, Texas β Two people were arrested following a reported theft at a Mabank Dollar General and a subsequent pursuit of the vehicle through three counties on Tuesday morning.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Mabank Police Department officers responded to Dollar General on State Highway (SH) 198 in reference to a shoplifter, Mabank Police Department Chief Keith Bradshaw told inForney.com.
Upon their arrival, Bradshaw says an employee was flagging down the officer and pointing at a vehicle allegedly involved in the theft at the store.
The officer stopped the vehicle, a Ford F-350, in the parking lot of First State Bank at the intersection of SH 198, East Eubank Street, and East Mason Street. When the officer approached the vehicle, Bradshaw says the driver then fled the parking lot east on East Eubank Street and onto eastbound U.S. Highway 175.
The suspects led police on a chase into Henderson County, north on County Road 2919 to Farm-to-Market (FM) 319, and into Van Zandt County where the pursuit ended in a foot pursuit in a field off of Van Zandt County Road 2219.
Bradshaw says the suspects briefly drove through the field before bailing on foot and leading Mabank and Texas Department of Public Safety officers on a brief foot pursuit.
Police determined the truck was reported stolen out of Dallas, Texas.
The two suspects were identified as 35-year-old Jacob Waymire of Gun Barrel City, Texas, and 21-year-old Alexis Droby of Red Oak, Texas.
Both were transported to the Kaufman County Jail where Waymire stands charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving while license invalid, and warrants for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle with previous conviction, possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 greater than or equal to one gram and less than four grams, and failure to appear with bonds totaling . Droby is charged with theft under $100, unauthorized use of motor vehicle, and evading arrest or detention with bonds totaling $10,000.
