KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a rollover crash in eastern Kaufman County on Friday night.

The wreck was reported just before midnight in the 7000 block of Farm-to-Market (FM) 2728 in between Pam Lane and County Road 136. The College Mound Volunteer Fire Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, CareFlite, and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to the scene.

According to Texas DPS investigators, the man driving the vehicle was distracted on his cell phone when he veered off the shoulder of FM 2728 while traveling southbound, over-corrected, crossed over the road, and overturned in the northbound shoulder where the vehicle came to a rest on its roof.

The man fled the scene on foot and was later picked up by a woman in an SUV. The SUV was located traveling westbound on Interstate 20 a short distance from FM 2728. The man and woman were arrested.

The man had outstanding warrants, according to DPS, and the woman was driving without a license.

The vehicle the man was driving was newly registered and still had temporary tags when it was towed from the scene.
