KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas β€” A man has been arrested in connection with a marijuana grow site discovered by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter during a search for a missing elderly man on Sunday.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas β€” A man has been arrested in connection with a marijuana grow site discovered by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter during a search for a missing elderly man on Sunday.

β€œAt approximately 11:30 a.m., Sunday morning, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter located what appeared to be an area of cultivated marijuana off FM 429 in Kaufman County,” stated Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sergeant Kyle Bradford.

DPS troopers were dispatched to the area while they awaited DPS Criminal Investigations Division agents.

60-year-old Richard Cantey Hedden was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana greater than 2,000 pounds, a first-degree felony punishable by up to life imprisonment, or a term of 5 to 99 years, and a fine not to exceed $50,000. He has since been released after posting a $50,000 bond.

Bradford says the investigation remains ongoing.

The missing elderly man was later located, according to the Hunt County Sheriff's Office.
